In the words of her parents, Patricia was an artist before she knew she was an artist. When she needed space she turned to art and we were never worried as long as she had a pencil or a pen.
Patricia Gihuly is a self-taught artist working in a range of mediums with a focus on minimalist pieces using a single subject.
With a preference for creating murals, Patricia adopts an organic and fluid approach led by the artwork without tracing and looks to take a small idea and make it “really big” while incorporating the ideas or her children into the piece. Childhood inspirations included stained glass that made use of simplistic designs and bold colours.
With an aspiration to travel, Patricia hopes to share her work with a wider audience at renowned mural festivals in cities including Vancouver, Nelson and Montreal.
Patricia embraces the idea of simplicity and solitude in her art which is presented in a range of mediums including charcoal and paint on canvas.
Works can be commissioned and ordered directly from the artist.
